Watch your kids for complaints of stomach aches and headaches, especially after they have had very exciting days. Im not speaking of the exhaustion that often comes after intense activity, but the type that seems to crop up without reason. It is not too common in little kids, but in adolescents, it could well be bipolar disorder. You ought to get them tested and diagnosed in a hurry, otherwise things will get out of hand. There are both physical and emotional problems associated with bipolar disorder, and it matters little whether you are in the manic or depressed state. Certainly you know that your physical health is tied inexorably to your emotional wellbeing, and as bipolar disorder is all about your emotions dancing a jig with your mind, the way you feel will certainly make you feel ill, or overenergetic. There are certain cultures here on earth in which people who are depressed may not be overly sad or feel guilty. Instead, theyd complain of physical problems and such. If what they are suffering from is bipolar disorder, youd notice the difference, only you might not see it as a clinical condition. This is one of the many reasons why even professionals can misdiagnose the ailment as something else. If you have a friend who is one day complaining of headaches or nerves, and the next day, without so much as an aspirin, they could be all over the place with what you might call pointless energy, theyre probably suffering from bipolar disorder. To be absolutely sure, find a way to get them to a shrink and see what the diagnosis might be. It is not worth it waiting until the condition gets out of hand.
